Dame Zandra Rhodes is a British fashion and textile designer.Zandra Rhodes, 82, is widely recognized as the "godmother of fashion" in the industry. She has designed clothing for numerous British royal members and celebrities, including Princess Diana. She has also designed stage outfits for rock stars like Freddie Mercury of Queen and Marc Bolan of T-Rex.


In 1995, she established an interior design studio in California, United States. She has been invited by the San Diego Opera to design costumes for performances such as Mozart’s “The Magic Flute” and Bizet’s “The Pearl Fishers”. She has also appeared and served as a judge in British BBC radio dramas and fashion TV shows. In 2003, Zandra Rhodes founded the Fashion and Textile Museum in London. In 2010, she became the chancellor of the University for the Creative Arts which is the second largest art and design education institution in Europe.


Throughout her nearly 60-year career, Zandra Rhodes has received numerous honors and awards in recognition for her contributions to the fashion industry. These include the 1979 US Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Individual Achievement in Costume Design, the 1972 British Designer of the Year Award from the Royal Society of Arts, the Hall of Fame Honor from the British Fashion Council in 1995, and the 2019 Walpole British Luxury Industry Legend Award. She was appointed as a Commander of the Order of the British Empire (CBE) in 1997 and was later bestowed the title of Dame Commander of the Order of the British Empire (DBE) by Princess Anne at Buckingham Palace in 2014.
