Known as the "Chinese Folk Poetess," Ai Jing began painting in 1999 and later moved to New York to study contemporary art.

In 2017, Ai Jing was honored by the Hirshhorn Museum as one of the 132 top female artists in the world. The honorees include Yayoi Kusama, Yoko Ono and Barbara Kruger.Ruger, among others.
