We met at Xuedong Chen’s new home in Shanghai.
It was a gloomy day with a drizzle.
But the moment we stepped into his home, the white oak walls and floors swept away the winter haze.
And he even started playing the hide-and-seek game with us!
In recent years, compared to his exposure on the screen, Chen seems to be more often associated with topics related to the ocean. His life seems to be closely linked to the sea whether the topic about “marine conservation” or “earning five diving certificates in a year”.
The oversized turtleneck sweater in gray cashmere and lambskin, black ankle-tied pants in cotton corduroy, and small leather boots which belong to the mix-and-match style are all from Hermès. The dining table is from Malerba. The blue armrest chairs were designed by Bob and Dries van den Berghe in the 1970s and produced by Tranekaer in a vintage warehouse of Denmark. What’s more, the Kuonyesha carpet is from Fuli Carpet. The crystal chandelier is from Baccarat.
When it comes to swimming pools, we have to mention Xuedong Chen 's favorite sport - free diving. Last year, he obtained the certification of AIDA Instructor. He reached a professional level that can dive 40 meters without the aid of artificial oxygen equipment, but by holding his breath for more than four minutes. Free divers depend on holding their breath to dive, experiencing the feeling of “merging with water.” For Xuedong Chen, free diving not only provides him with the physical experience of diving into the deep sea, but also teaches him how to tap into his own physical potential and control his desires.
The gray brick wall on the left side is entirely made of recycled old bricks, emphasizing the idea of sustainability. The white carpet Sea is from Fuli Carpet. The walnut Cowrie lounge chair is from Made in Ratio (GDD by Gallery All).
