FULI×JUJU WANG | Childlike innocence is poetry, wishes spread love.

As a high-end custom carpet brand, Fuli has been trying to cooperate with artists, designers and architects from all walks of life in recent years. Through the ideas sparks, the creative contemporary designs are integrated with complicated and traditional weaving technology, making carpets be a traditional functional product as well as a unique and more collectible fashion art.

Today we will share the latest works and wonderful stories behind designs of our collaborator——artist Juju Wang!

Juju Wang is a Chinese-American installation artist, born in Shanghai and raised in California. She is a female artist who excels at extracting creative inspirations from traditional culture and nature, and combines ideas with contemporary approaches for artistic expression. Her installation works have been exhibited worldwide and she has been invited to collaborate with international brands such as AUDI, DIOR, TIFFANY and more.

In 2019, she was one of the three person who were awarded the global prize “Swarovski Designers of the Future”. In 2020, she became a young artist of Art Power 100 of China. Meanwhile, she won the prize “Annual Young Artist” from Robb Report. In 2019-2020, she was awarded the “Annual Future Leader” and “Annual Committee Chair” by the American Chamber of Commerce in Shanghai.

“Through the lens which are rich in love, reality we felt magnifies the world, and our eyes sparkle with joyful radiance,” Juju said while working with FULI Carpet. “Our love is not limited to the partners we choose, but extends to our dearest ones and ourselves, and ultimately extends to life itself.”

So, one of the inspirations for JUJU's collaboration with Fuli Carpet came from her daughter. "She expresses her love for me with her body at every moment, which is beyond any words. She is a constant force that keeps me balanced and healthy in an ever-changing world. She is also a solid core that helps me continue to grow."

In contrast, "Fortune Pack", another square blanket designed by JUJU, can be understood as "a good-luck blanket ". It is created from the traditional Chinese culture, passing on a beautiful blessing. She has previously designed many similar installations, such as "Looking at the Palace" which combines traditional flower window patterns with contemporary materials, and "Doing Life" which reflects Suzhou weaving techniques.

This Chinese red carpet draws inspiration from the folk “Eight Treasures” in Chinese traditional culture. Inspired by the longing for auspiciousness, health and wealth, Juju selected many symbols of good fortune and organized them: peaches symbolize “escaping disasters,” chrysanthemums represent auspiciousness and longevity, and two golden fish symbolize wealth and family reunion.

Juju knows that these elements have appeared in various forms in the interior decoration of traditional Chinese architecture and have been widely recognized in Asian cultures.

Therefore, she reinterprets these elements with simple and cute strokes, composing a good-luck carpet gift that can be given to loved ones.

“No matter our gender, age, race, cultural background or education level, we can discover warmth in every part of our bodies and continuously expand it.”

That’s what Juju who is born in Shanghai and raised in the USA says. She is always sensitive to the love in the details of life and incorporates it into her works
